Trip-To-The-2015-Yurok-Salmon-Festival-In

We took a trip down to Klamath, California to enjoy the Yurok Salmon Festival. This is the first time we have been able to go for several years. Now that we are in Southern Oregon it is a quick and beautiful 2 hour trip. The festival has really grown since we last went.

The drive down was gorgeous, but very smokey. Lots of fires in the area and entire west and the smoke settling in the valleys pretty bad.

The Salmon Festival offers great events, music, a fun atmosphere with friendly people and lots of great food.

There is no admission fee to the festival and there is plenty of free parking. This year the official parking area was in an old logging yard and they had free shuttles to and from the event area.

Another HUGE plus is that the event is dog friendly. There were lots and lots of dogs of all sizes on leashes. Love it! Max and Yuki loved it too. At first Max was a little overwhelmed with all the people and just wanted to hang out in the bag, but soon they were both having fun sniffing and looking around on their leashes.

There is a classic car show with a lot of awesome cars this year.

The main meal is a salmon dinner for $10 a plate. There is always a long, and I mean LONG, line for the salmon dinner but it is worth the wait. Be sure and buy your meal ticket early and get in line. This year along with the awesome and perfectly cooked salmon, we got a nice salad with choice of dressing, fruit salad, a soft dinner roll and bottle of ice cold water. The salmon was so good, I almost forgot to take a pic before it was all gone. 🙂

If salmon is not your taste there are many other choices from fry bread, mexican, chinese, pizza and lots of berry pies and other desserts…yum! We had berry cobbler with ice cream…so good!

The HSU Marching Band, the Marching Lumberjacks, put on a great show. They are very animated and really get into it. Always fun to watch. The conductor with is ax is great. He must have some strong arms. 🙂

Check out this video of one of the songs they performed at the festival.

Snapped a pic of the ocean on the way home. Kind of foggy and dreary but still beautiful.
