Last Wednesday on May 8th, 2013 I logged into my Google+ business page and found a message…“Your Google+ page is suspended”. WHAT? I read further. “The text, images, or other content on your Google+ page was flagged for violating the Google+ User Content and Conduct Policy.” I couldn’t imagine what on my page would be violating their policy. Here is an image of the message.

google+ page suspended

View my video below to get details of the process to get your Google+ page reactivated and other interesting information.

I read over the User Content and Conduct Policy several times and I don’t see how my cover image is a violation. I went down the list.

I took the image myself so that isn’t an issue.
Not illegal activities.
Not malicious products
Not hate speech.
Not personal info.
Not account hijacking
Nothing to do with child safety.
Not spamming
Not using ranking manipulation
Not sexually explicit
Not harassing or bullying
Not violence
Not impersonation or deceptive behavior
Not profile name issue
Not regulated goods or services
Not contests or promotions

This is where you go to submit to their support. It is in group format. The people are volunteers and it does take time and patience and time and more time. https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/google-plus-discuss

I have been doing a lot of research on Google+ page suspension. There is a lot of information out there on the real name issue, but nothing on cover image suspensions. I am still in the middle of this process and am still finding out why (or trying to find out) they didn’t like my image. I will be posting updates as I get more information.

Hi Marlo, was this issue every rectified to your satisfaction? I’m incurring a G+ suspension right now tied to the “promotion of regulated goods” for the 2nd time. Have no idea what I have been promoting that falls out of guideline, because like you, G+ has a tendency to use these ‘generalized terms’ while not denoting any ‘specifics.’

I’m writing a blog on this topic so would like to hear back if you were ever able to obtain a resolution to your issue? Thanks, Ron Callari

Hi Ron, Yes, I had to post to the forums and finally got a volunteer that looked at my cover image and didn’t see any reason why it should violate Google’s terms. Thought may be my account was disable by accident and when it was reactivated my image was just automatically reverted back to default or something. So, he suggested to try changing it back to my image to see what happens. I did that and I have had no problems since. Seems that it must have just been and accidental disablement. I wish they would just tell us the issue at least to narrow it down. Save everyone so much time and frustration.

I have an update post here…

Good luck with your situation. I hope it is resolved soon.

        Hi Marlo,

Do you by any chance have the email address of that Google rep you spoke to. If you can believe it, my suspension due to allegedly “promoting regulated goods” is going on 6 months. I’ve sent 4 appeals over that period of time and not one person has contacted me or even acknowledged working on my case. So if I can just get to speak to someone on the inside, I might have a better shot at being reinstated. Please email me your response, as I don’t think this post pings back. Thanks, Ron Callari

Hi Ron, I know the frustration you are feeling. Sorry you are going through this. I never did directly email anyone at Google. The only way to contact them is through their support forums which is manned by volunteers. They will try to look at your situation and see if they see what the violation might be, but You don’t seem to ever really get to contact someone at Google directly. I think they can escalate it somewhat but they will not tell you definitely what the issue is. It is so frustrating to have to guess. The person that was helping me in the forums was very nice, but it did take a while before I got someone to respond. I think it was about a week.
